From July 7th to 9th, 2024, the "New Finance and Economics" Outstanding College Students' Academic Summer Camp of 2024, hosted by the School of Finance and Taxation, was successfully held at the Liulin Campus of Southwestern University of Finance and Economics. The event aimed to further enhance the understanding of finance, taxation, tax administration, and asset evaluation among outstanding college students, while also selecting excellent talents for the master's programs of the four majors in the school. The activities included academic forums, industry frontier lectures, symposiums, and interview defenses.
On the afternoon of July 7th, the campers completed registration in the 811 conference room of the Gezhi Building. In the evening, the school invited three outstanding student representatives from the school to conduct an online experience sharing session, showcasing the style and colorful campus life of the finance and tax students.
On the morning of July 8th, the opening ceremony of the summer camp was held with great ceremony in the video conference hall of the Student Activity Center at Liulin Campus, with 67 outstanding students from universities across the country gathering in Finance and Taxation. Professor Li Jianjun, Vice Dean of the School of Finance and Taxation, Associate Professor Yang Jin, Director of the Institute of Fiscal Economy, Associate Professor Zhang Nan, Director of the Institute of Taxation Economy, Teacher Li Na, Director of the Academic Department of the Professional Master's Education Center, and Associate Professor Zhang Tengfei, Director of the Professional Master's Education Center, attended the opening ceremony, which was presided over by Associate Professor Yang Jin. On behalf of the School of Finance and Taxation, Professor Li Jianjun delivered a speech, warmly welcoming all the excellent students participating in the camp, hoping that the students participating in the camp could participate in this exchange with a pursuit and ambition for scientific research, and maintain a positive learning attitude and the courage to challenge themselves in the future postgraduate life. The heads of each department and center introduced the training characteristics and requirements of the majors of finance, taxation, tax administration, and asset evaluation from aspects such as historical evolution, faculty strength, discipline construction, development achievements, and social contributions, encouraging all campers to cherish this opportunity for exchange and learning, broaden their academic horizons, improve their knowledge system, and gain beautiful memories. In the exchange session, the campers had a full exchange with the teachers on issues such as professional fields, academic research, doctoral studies, and employment, and gained a lot.



Following the opening ceremony, the summer camp organized a series of high-level lectures. Professor Liu Rong, the chair of the Professors' Committee of the School of Finance and Taxation, focused on the theme "Fiscal Stabilizes the Economy, Monetary Stabilizes Debt—Looking at the Macro Policy Direction from the Perspective of Fiscal and Financial Policy Coordination," elucidating the mechanism of fiscal and financial coordination in stabilizing China's economic development. Liu Weitao, an external mentor of the School of Finance and Taxation and a senior tax manager at KPMG China, discussed the theme "Theory and Application of Tax Treaties," explaining the basics and interpretation of tax treaty articles, management of treaty benefits, permanent establishments, beneficial owners, and other aspects of tax theory and practice. Liang Bingjing, Assistant Director of the Valuation and Advisory Services Department of DTZ (now Cushman & Wakefield), and the person in charge of asset securitization in the Western China region of DTZ, focused on "Application Scenarios and Future Development Directions of Real Estate Appraisal," systematically explaining the application fields and development trends of real estate appraisal in modern society. The lectures by the experts were rich in professional content, showcasing the forefront of academic development, expanding the academic horizons of the campers with practical academic issues, enriching their professional cognition with profound practical experience, and greatly stimulating the enthusiasm of the participating students for the academic discipline.



On July 9th, the summer camp's interview assessment was successfully conducted, with students fully prepared to showcase the results of their three-year academic accumulation to the interview experts. With this, the summer camp activities concluded amidst the impressive performances of the participants. This event served as an important window to display the overall educational strength and the characteristics of the academic disciplines of the School of Finance and Taxation at Southwestern University of Finance and Economics, and it is also an important way to attract outstanding students from universities across the country. The campers broadened their horizons, enhanced their abilities, and deepened their understanding through interaction, establishing a good platform for communication between students in the field of economics and management and the school. We hope to gather again in September next year at the School of Finance and Taxation, to celebrate the centenary of Southwestern University of Finance and Economics, and look forward to the new vitality that the students will bring to the development of the school.
